RESTAURANTS
& INNS WITH HISTORY
One can hardly believe Cape Cod is one of the few
regions that boast over 1200 individual restaurants and some with more
than a 100 year history of hospitality and many under the proprietorship.
The new year inspires me to list these outstanding restaurants who have
stood the test of time with tradition, longevity and integrity. My congratulations
to all of you for making Cape Cod one of the top dining meccas in the United
States.

108 restaurants out of 1200 account for over 2000 years of restaurant experience
serving the dining public. I have enjoyed many of these restaurants during
the past 30 years and will continue my quest to eat my way through Cape
Cod for years to come. In the coming years you can also be assured of the
same exceptional hospitality and dining experiences at these outstanding
restaurants. And be sure to watch my television show to view and hear the
reasons why these establishments have gained the respect from tens of thousands
of dining patrons during the last hundred years.
And now on to some new dining spots to experience
and I welcome them to the list of outstanding Cape Cod restaurants.
Roast Prime Rib, Baked 'Shrooms, Bangers N Mash, Campfire
Chicken, Sourdough Chowder...
Although the Black Rock Grille, West Yarmouth is a new restaurant
(August 1996) to Cape Cod, it is under the management team of the famous
Clancy's in West Yarmouth, so you can expect exceptional entrees such as
the Black Rock Campfire Chicken, fowl on the bone, lightly marinated with
a special herb/spice dressing, maple glazed and then flamed broiled. Or
if you prefer beef, certified Angus, try the Roast Prime Rib, New York
Sirloin, Le Filet Mignon, Delmonico, London Broil, Meatloaf, Steak Teriyaki,
Club Steak, Rump Steak and Rich Ranch Cut (20oz) these are for the beef
lover in your family. The Black Rock also invites the palate for a taste
of the "teasers" Bangers N Mash, Irish sausage from the Galtee Mountains
smashed into a mound of fresh garlic mashed potatoes. And yes do try the
Sourdough Chowder - a must, creamy, not thick, loaded with ocean clams
and served in a sourdough bowl (you must eat the bowl too)! and savor the
mild flavors from the chowder.
Open 7 days at 4PM for dinner. (508) 771-1001
Penne Con Pollo E Broccoli Al Alfredo, Tortellini Al Amatrigiana,
Bistecca Al Ferri, Bistecca Alla Calabrese...
You may learn Italian at this "not so new" Ristorante, but those who
remember the Casa Mia on Route 28, West Yarmouth...will be pleased to know
you can find the same exquisite menu at Ristorante Pescara at the
Cove Resort. My choices are the Tortellini all Amatrigiana: sautéed
Pancetta, filet of tomatoes, diced onions, Pecorino and Pamigiano cheeses
and the Bistecca Alla Calabrese: broiled sirloin topped with sautéed
Greek olives, Pimento, Pepperonncini and hot finger peppers in a zesty
wine sauce. These entrees have me talking fluent Italian, forgetting every
English word I know.
Open daily, except Mondays, for dinner. (508) 775-9600
Pan Fried Crab cakes, Maryland Soft Shell Crab, Cranberry Orange
Chicken, Caribbean Jerk Pork, Grilled Mediterranean Vegetable Salad, Spinach
& Radiccio Salad...
are just a sample of the creative menu entrees found at the Beachmoor,
traditional American Cuisine is the menu fare, owned and operated by Rita
& Bob, who also have one of the oldest restaurants in Falmouth. Although
the Beachmoor is a new restaurant since 1995, in Buzzards Bay, the Inn
offers six charming and tastefully decorated rooms. I was overwhelmed with
the blends of pleasing colors and the ambiance of the Inn. One could just
feel the summer breeze in January. Back to the menu, a suggested entree
may be the Pan Fried Crab cakes ( a secret recipe) accompanied with Tarragon
mustard and smoke tomato remoulade. Tasty, very tasty! Cranberry Orange
Chicken speaks for itself...another entree that deserves attention is the
Grilled Mediterranean Vegetable Salad with Feta cheese and a lemon oregano
cucumber dressing. The Beachmoor offers a wide and varied menu to the season.
The Spinach and Radiccio Salad just met the requirement for my New Years'
resolution, fresh tossed wild mushrooms, prosciutto, sun dried tomatoes,
grilled sweet onions, toasted pine nutsand a warm raspberry dressing, and
at the top, crumbled gorgonzola.
Open for lunch and dinner. Call for Winter hours. (508) 759-7522
